Rings, chains and glasses collect grime in exactly the places a cloth cannot reach: behind a setting, inside a link, along a nose pad. Ultrasonic cleaning works differently — high-frequency vibration creates microscopic bubbles throughout the water that reach into every crevice at once, lifting oils, skin residue and dust without scrubbing or scratching.
Using it takes about three minutes. Fill the tank with water, add a drop of dish soap if the item is heavily soiled, drop the piece in and run a cycle. Rings come out bright, glasses stop looking hazy at the edges, and watch bands lose the grey film that builds up between links. It also handles razor heads, dentures, small tools, coins and jewellery-making components.
Two versions are available: a mains-run model with no battery, and a rechargeable version for use away from a power point. Do not clean pearls, opals, emeralds, coral, amber or any glued or fracture-filled stone in an ultrasonic bath, as the vibration can loosen settings or damage soft material. Check valuable pieces with a jeweller first, and unplug the unit before emptying.
